*sigh*

Well it looks like my weekend trip got cancelled, friend texted me today and said his parents wouldn't let him go. I figured he would have been a little more responsible and asked earlier but I guess not. I might get out over the weekend down to the river with my brother for some carp. But my next decent fishing trip will hopefully be next friday. We are going to a nearby creek in search of some carp and smallmouth on the fly rod maybe?

Also just bought a new rod and reel from Allen Fly fishing, can't wait to use it, I am hoping it comes in the mail soon enough for me to use it on the next trip, guess I will have to wait and see.

Last two days

Got out friday night with a few friends of mine to do some carp fishing at the river. Lost two due to snags and rocks breaking me off, landed one though. First one of the year, forgot how much they fought compared to trout, made me remember why I liked fishing for them.

Went out Saturday night again with my little brother. Water started coming up so we reeled in and one of his lines was snagged. So I walked down shore with it playing and and tugging it trying to un-snag it, which I did, and while I was reeling it in I had a fish grab it about 5 feet of shore. Brought it in and it was a small musky, first one I had ever caught.

Sorry about the sideways picture, for some reason my computer wont let me flip it. The first picture you can see the stripes and the second I don't look like a complete idiot haha. Well I might get back down a night or two this week, I'll know as the week goes on, but I am going on a camping/fishing trip with my two friends this weekend so I should have some stories after that.

Memorial day

I will be out in Venango county fly fishing with my friend over Memorial day weekend. Possibly camping out along side the stream, it's going to be a nice get away. Hopefully I will be able to get a wild brown, brook and rainbow. Where we are going it is possible and I am really looking forwards to it. I will definitly have pictures, well hopefully, phone has been screwed up lately.

Also tomorrow night I will be down at the Mon river fishing for some carp and catfish. Just made some dough ball yesterday and have one more batch to make tomorrow. It will be the first time out this year, pretty excited to catch some carp on 4 pound test. Might throw a few lures out to see if I can hook into a bass or two, not sure. Till tomorrow or Saturday when I blog about carp fishing, tight lines my friends.

101

Went out to mingo with my brother again today, caught 3 fish fairly quickly. Walked up the creek were he got one and I got another. Went back down and he got one and I got two more. I caught mine on salmon eggs he caught his on green powerbait worms. It was an interesting day though. We saw many creatures out and about. I saw a snake poke his head out from a rock, look at me and then slowly go back inside his hole. My brother caught a little snapping turtle not much bigger than a quarter. And we also watched a squirrel fall from a tree into the creek, made us laugh pretty hard. He swan out and climbed up the wall and was back in the tree in no time.

Also got my 101 trout of the year, only 49 more until I get my goal for the year. I plan to take a weekend trip to the Allegheny national forest or out west to Tioga/Lycoming county, not sure yet. Also plan on spending a day or two in West Virginia.

New Creeks

My friend and I went up to Clear Shade creek to help stock and then fish. It was storming on our way up and we figured that the fishing was going to be terrible. The rain was coming down so hard. We had hit a puddle on 70 that was at least a foot deep. We got to the meeting place and found out it had only rained for around 20 minutes, a little hope. Followed them out to the creek where we were greeted by 40 to 50 other anglers ready to catch the fish. Thank god this was the normal approved trout waters section, not the Fly fishing only where we were planning on fishing. Went to help stock and didn't even get to put a bucket in, so we decided to just go fishing instead. Found a few holes that looked promising and didn't catch anything out of them. Further up we found a nice deep hole with a nice current. I saw a few fishing rising on the other side of the creek in a different current then I was fishing. I tried to cast over to them a few times but I couldn't get a good drift. I decided to walk down then over closer to them. I had a white wooly bugger on and put a split shot on several inches above it. I would cast it out and let it drift down near the bottom, caught 6 in less than an hour this way. Three were really nice sized fish, two being around 15 and the other around 17.

It started to get hot and the bite died down so we decided to go and get some food. After a short food and bathroom break at McDonald's we decided to go and try a wild trout stream. We ended up getting lost and going to a different wild trout creek. We had no idea it was the wrong one, but it indeed was. I caught 5 wild trout and 2 stocked one out of here. It was crazy, they would hit anything you threw as long as you threw it right. This was also my first time wild trout fishing, very cool experience, the scenery helped out the experience too. I ended up with 13 fish, and my friend got 6, his were all wild. It makes me laugh that people give no credit to stocked fish, sometimes they are incredibly difficult to catch, others, not so much. Well I have 96 fish so far, hopefully I will get out tonight and be able to get to 100.

A new catch

Brother and I were back out at mingo today after they stocked. Fishing was slow for the first 2 hours and then it started to pick up. My bro caught one early and didn't get anything else. I fished for chubs with a dry fly to ease my boredom. I looked up and there he was with a black snake or a garter snake, not sure, but it was cool and he was happy. Decided to try a nymph and start actually fishing for trout. Managed 2 while my brother was downstream fishing. I was quite happy that I managed to get in front of him when he walked up with 2 in his hands. Apparently he wanted some trout for dinner, whatever. Now he again has one more than me. Changed patterns and bam got 4 more, and he only managed to get one more. Although we did have some problems. I casted out and hooked into a fish while on the phone, he reeled it in for me and netted it. No idea whose fish it was, I think it was his but he wouldn't take it. I guess that one just goes in the extra fish column? Who knows, I did try to get him to catch a trout on the fly. He missed a couple, maybe next time he will get one.

And for the new catch, I caught a caterpillar, how? I don't know but I did. Back casted and realized something was wrong. Looked at my hook and there was a caterpillar stuck to it, made me laugh.
